BSA

Name: BSA
Frame Width: 68,0 mm
73,0 mm
83,0 mm
100,0 mm
Frame Diameter: 34,9 mm
Crank Spindle Diameter: 24,0 mm
Replacement Bearings: 2x Industrial Bearing MR2437 2RS, 37x24x7mm
Mounting: Coil: 1,37in x 24 TPI
Description:
Originally designed for square taper and involute gearing (Shimano Octalink, ISIS) crank systems, cartridge bottom brackets are today mainly found in the lower priced segments.
Because of their closed construction and the screwed joint the bearings are always perfectly aligned and the precision of the bottom bracket shell of the frame loses significance.
In 2004 Shimano introduced the today widespread SHIMANO Hollowtech II system. It uses a 24mm crank spindle attached to the drive side of the crank in combination with outboard bearings. The system provides higher stiffness while reducing the weight of the complete driving system.
SRAM/TRUVATIV introduced an equivalent system called "GXP" that uses a crank spindle with 24mm diameter on the drive and 22mm on the non-drive side.
Standard 30mm cranks (BB30) can not be used in combination with BSA frame interfaces due to the small bottom bracket shell diameter.
BB30 Wide, 386EVO cranks with a spindle length of at least 104mm can be used with BSA frame interfaces using special bottom brackets. In such a combination special attention has to be payed to the chain line of the bike.

BB30/30A

Name: BB30/30A
Frame Width: 68,0 mm
73,0 mm
Frame Diameter: 42,0 mm
Crank Spindle Diameter: 30,0 mm
24mm with special bottom brackets
Replacement Bearings: 2x Industrial Bearing 6806 2RS, 42x30x7mm
Mounting: Bearing: 6806 – 42x30x7mm
Description:
Introduced by Cannondale in 2000 the BB30 system is one of the lightest and stiffest bottom bracket systems.
Later Cannondale designed the BB30A standard as a further developement of the BB30 standard, using a asymmetrical bottom bracket shell that is 5mm wider on the non-drive side resulting in an even stiffer system.
6806 industrial bearings with 42x30x7mm are directly pressed into the frame and the cranks with a spindle diameter of 30mm are directly mounted into the bearings.
The bottom bracket shell of the frame has to be prepared with high accuracy for bearings being aligned perfectly.
Angular Contact Bearings distributing the load better to the bearing balls are highly recommended.
For the use with SHIMANO or SRAM/GPX cranks cost-efficient adapter sets are available.
Nevertheless threaded bottom brackets are recommended for the use with SHIMANO or SRAM/GPX cranks to compensate possible shell tolerances and to secure a tight fit.
For the use of Campagnolo UltraTorque cranks in combination with BB30 bottom bracket shells a special adapter is also available.

PressFit 30/30A

Name: PressFit 30/30A
Frame Width: 68,0 mm
73,0 mm

Crank Spindle Diameter: 30,0 mm
24mm with special bottom brackets
Replacement Bearings: 2x Industrial Bearing 6806 2RS, 42x30x7mm
Mounting: CUP + Bearing: 6806 – 42x30x7mm
Description:
PF30 bottom brackets are a further development of the BB30 standard. Bearing cups are pressed into the bottom bracket shell with a diameter of 46mm. Cannondale introduced the PF30A standard later as a further developement using an asymmetrical bottom bracket shell that is 5mm wider on the non-drive side resulting in an even stiffer drivetrain system.
The bottom bracket cups are fitted with 6806 Industrial Bearings with a dimension of 42x30x7mm. Cranks with 30mm spindle diameter are directly mounted into the the bearings. The bottom bracket shell of the frame has to be prepared with high accuracy for bearings being aligned perfectly.
Angular Contact Bearings distributing the load better to the bearing balls are highly recommended.
Threaded Bottom Brackets are available as a recommended high-quality alternative to indepently and not connected cups. The bottom brackets are using two cups that are screwed together ensuring a very tight and secure fit preventing any movement of the cups that often results in a creaky noise.
